Outrageous

12/31/2009

So I go to BiMart for the annual license renewal and much to my chagrin, I find that the Oregon hunting/ fishing license combo with salmon steelhead tag has gone up to a whopping $84.50!! I was a little pissed last year when I paid $66, but come on. I can drive a 1/2 hour north and pay around $45 for an OUT OF STATE license in Washington and enjoy a better run fish and game program. I'm sure there are others that feel the same as I do, we seem to be paying more and more each year for less and less from the ODFW. I wonder if any state has raised their tag rates by nearly 40% in one year. I'm not sure what the extra money is going to, but it certainly isn't the hatcheries or any other improvements I can see to our already poor Salmon and Steelhead runs. Not only that, but poaching has increased 3 fold since I've lived in Washington County. How many carcases have you run across, or how many shots have you heard just at dusk when hunting seasons are all closed. Apparently there aren't more game wardens patrolling our woods, so just what are we paying for?? If you agree, please comment on this. If enough Oregon sportsmen speak up, maybe we can change things. I've lived here my whole life and am considering boycotting Oregon and fishing Washington exclusively. Why not, the drive is about the same and the fishing is better from my experience. Just had to get that off my chest. Hope everyone has a great 2010 Steelhead season. Until next time...
